iPhone on eBay Morons

Friday, June 29th, 2007

According to Apple’s own retail iPhone locator, not one Apple store sold out of iPhones. Not one.

So, all those idiots who stood in line for days or even 30 minutes just wasted their time. The best part about this is though is that all the bastards on eBay trying to make a quick buck off of these things are going to get nothing.

Anyone who wants one bad enough to pay $1000 or more for it on eBay is going to be able to go to an Apple Store tomorrow and walk right in and buy it. In addition, they can wait until Monday and buy them from the online Apple Store.

This is a victory against those trolls who buy 10 Wiis/Ps3/Xbox360s and want to charge ungodly amounts to everyone else.

Dance Party Coming Down

Saturday, June 16th, 2007

Erik would probably cut me so I bleed if he heard this, but I used to think DJ’ing of electronic music was only slightly skillful. After hearing some of the really shoddy and clumsy mixing I heard tonight, I know now that a good DJ is truly a skilled artisan.

Kim, Marcus and I ventured out to “The End” for a little dance party being thrown by our friend Dean. It probably wasn’t the best venue for dance music, but it was OK. The company far outstripped the music. It’s always fun to just hang with those two. Since, I work with them, I also get to revel in the fact that I am with such great people everyday.

At one point in the night, we took a break and were discussing some of the work we need to do in the hiring arena at work. It made me realize that I need to make sure I am dedicating myself to the job at hand as often as possible. I need to work on staying focused and growing in my responsibilities and abilities. It’s sometimes hard when the people around you are so talented, you feel a little like your staring at a big cliff you’re supposed to climb. I need to learn to face down the challenge and overcome it.

Barcamp Nashville Is Go

Tuesday, June 12th, 2007

I just got home from the first official organizational meeting of Barcamp Nashville. There are a great bunch of people getting involved and it’s sizing up to be a great time. I’m looking forward to lots of learning and new ideas. You can register for Barcamp Nashville or get more details on Barcamp Nashville here.

I’m mulling over whether or not I might try to present something. I have 2 or 3 topics in mind that I might could develop into a cogent presentation. At any rate, it will be a great challenge for me on the organizational and networking side. I’m not, naturally, the most organized or socially adept person in the world.

Nashville Rents Are Stoopid

Monday, June 11th, 2007

My wife and I currently rent a house in a really nice part of Franklin. It’s a little old and needs work and since we rent, we aren’t jumping at the chance to dump a bunch of money into the house.

So, I have been looking at rentals in the Nashville area and for some reason, people are asking for absolutely crazy amounts of money in rent. The Nashville housing market seems to be very hot with lots of new development, both in-town in the form of condo buildings and around town in new subdivisions. Houses are going up for 60 miles around Nashville and the condo buildings in-town are becoming more and more exclusive.

With all that building going on, I can’t understand how the prices have stayed so high and seem to be continuing to rise. Is there really that much demand? Nashville doesn’t seem to have that much of an influx of residents yet demand is the only reason the prices could continue to climb in the face of the amount of building going on.

In short, if you want to live anywhere near town, you should be prepared to pay through the nose or live in a large, McApartment complex. Even in the huge apartment developments, prices are keeping pace with the single family housing around town. It’s really baffling.

In conclusion, the wife and I may end up living way out of town and that means I’ll be killing the Earth and my wallet on the daily commute. Oh joy!

Joke From My Mom

Monday, June 4th, 2007

A filthy rich North Carolina man decided that he wanted to throw a party and invited all of his buddies and neighbors. He also invited Leroy, the only redneck in the neighborhood.

He held the party around the pool in the backyard of his mansion. Leroy was having a good time drinking, dancing, eating shrimp, oysters and BBQ and flirting with all the women.

At the height of the party, the host said, “I have a 10ft man-eating gator in my pool and I’ll give a million dollars to anyone who has the nerve to jump in.”

The words were barely out of his mouth when there was a loud splash and everyone turned around and saw Leroy in the pool!

Leroy was fighting the gator and kicking its ass! Leroy was jabbing the gator in the eyes with his thumbs, throwing punches, head butts and choke holds, biting the gator on the tail and flipping the gator through the air like some kind of Judo Instructor.

The water was churning and splashing everywhere. Both Leroy and the gator were screaming and raising hell. Finally Leroy strangled the gator and let it float to the top like a dime store goldfish. Leroy then slowly climbed out of the pool. Everybody was just staring at him in disbelief.

Finally the host says, “Well, Leroy, I reckon I owe you a million dollars.”

“No, that’s okay. I don’t want it,” said Leroy.

The rich man said, “Man, I have to give you something. You won the bet. How about half a million bucks then?”

“No thanks. I don’t want it,” answered Leroy.

The host said, “Come on, I insist on giving you something. That was amazing. How about a new Porsche and a Rolex and some stock options?”

Again Leroy said no.

Confused, the rich man asked, “Well, Leroy, then what do you want?”

Leroy said, “I want the name of the sumbitch who pushed me in the pool.

Is the Democratic Debate Fair?

Sunday, June 3rd, 2007

According to Chris Dodd’s blog, these are the amounts of time the different candidates have had to speak.

Looks to me like some of the candidates are getting short shrift. This chart looks a lot like the one of dollar amounts raised by the candidates and that’s troublesome. One surprising note is the lack of time Biden received. He was fired up and he seemed like he couldn’t find the rhythm for his message. Gravel’s problem is that his messages are very nuanced, so they never work for the ADD television audience of today’s America.

Where is the Joost Content?

Sunday, June 3rd, 2007

I’m watching the IRL race on TV today and I see that Joost is sponsoring one of the vehicles. I have been using Joost since the first beta invites were handed out. Even now that it’s in a larger beta, I still can’t figure out why there’s so much great press about it. My major question is: What is there to watch on Joost?

I’ve flipped through every channel and watched a lot of the crap that’s on there and none of it is compelling. It’s all just generic music video style content. It seems like maybe they are only programming for 14-year-old boys. I just don’t see the appeal.

I look at the channel list online at Joost’s website and it seems like most of those channels don’t show up when I actually use the application. Is there some secret here?

UPDATE: Yes, I’m the idiot. I see that you have to go to the “Channel Catalog” and “Add Channel”s to “My Channels.” This seems very counter-intuitive to me. There is a lot more content than I originally thought. The commercials are still amazingly obnoxious.
